About the Event

Once a year, we celebrate Tikkun Leil Shavuot by gathering in community. Shavuot began as a festival for the wheat harvest after the omer. This holiday also celebrates the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. It’s associated with the 10 commandments, dairy foods, the Book of Ruth, and the first fruits of harvest.

There’s a custom called Tikkun Leil Shavuot of staying up for the entire first night! This event at Yesod Farm+Kitchen will start before sunset on Thursday evening, and end after sunrise on Friday morning. We’ll be outdoors the whole time.

Starting at 7pm, you are welcome to arrive and walk the land or set up your tent. Everybody will circle around the campfire at 8pm. We’ll come together by saying a blessing and lighting candles to bring in the holiday. You are welcome whether or not this ritual is familiar to you – we’ll explain what to do.

We'll keep the fire going. You can choose to stay up, nap in your tent, or leave at the right time for you. From 9am to 1am, community members will teach on a variety of topics as a group learning activity. From 1am to 6am there is no programming, but informal conversation will likely keep going around the campfire.

In the morning, tea and coffee will be served at about 5:30am. We'll sing hallel, a set of psalms of praise. You can participate by singing along or listening if you choose. Printed copies of the words will be available. Light refreshments will be served, and you can depart when you're ready.

What to bring: Clothes for the weather, which will might get damp or chilly overnight. Snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. Flashlight and/or headlamp. Blankets or anything else to make yourself physically comfortable while you sit around the fire or nap.

Accessibility: There are flat, unpaved, wide walkways. A composting toilet for your use is located in the field. We'll provide chairs for seating, but you may want to bring your own folding chair that's more comfortable. Please email info@yesodfarm.org with accessibility requests and questions.

COVID: This event is outdoors and distanced, but please **bring a mask** in case there are times where we need to be in closer proximity.
