About the Event
On Shmini Atzeret (the last day of Sukkot) Jews across the globe pray for rain. Ashkenazi Jews recite "Tfilat Geshem," and Sephardi Jews recipe "Tikkun HaGeshem" which are both prayers for rain that evoke ancestors and pray for rain that comes at the right time and in the right amount.
Join us to explore rain and prayer through singing, writing, movement, ritual, and shared learning about water protectors and water bearers. There will be space for grief and anxiety around water and climate collapse.
This event is open to all and centers Jewish practice. No previous knowledge of Judaism or Hebrew required.
You are invited to bring a photo and information about water protectors or water bearers, alive or passed, who you want to share about. The facilitators will share about the foremothers Rachel, Miriam and the angel of rain Af-Bri.
You are invited to bring an item for our ancestor altar.
