New Year for the Animals Volunteer Day

Judaism has a New Year for the Animals called Rosh Hashanah La’Behemot. In honor of this day, the farm is excited to announce that we're getting chickens and goats soon! Come learn how to participate in and support these plans as we set fenceposts and decorate the barn!

At this event we will...

• Learn about the chickens and goats that will arrive at the farm this fall
• Set fenceposts for the goat's yard
• Decorate the barn loft to be a community and educational space
• Put some finishing touches on the ground floor of the barn, where the goats will live
• See the goat barn, chicken tractor, and rainwater catchment system

There will be a variety of tasks for different abilities and ages. If you have specific questions and wonder if this is the right event for you, please email info@yesodfarm.org. Children must be supervised as we will be working with heavy tools. See the "Accessibility" section for more details.

Come for an hour, or for the whole event. Any amount of help is appreciated!

Please dress for work: comfortable closed-toed shoes, sun protection, long pants for ticks and poison ivy, and bring a water bottle and a mask.

This event will largely be happening outdoors, but there will be tasks inside of the barn. When inside the barn, everyone is required to wear a mask, regardless of age, vaccination status, or recent testing.

Accessibility: 

Walking: There is an uphill walk from the parking spot to the barn. There is a 1-2 inch threshold to get into the barn from the pathway. The main route to the barn includes crossing a wooden bridge and walking on uneven ground, but there is also mowed pathway that is relatively even. 

COVID: We will have all barn doors and windows open, but it is still an indoor space and we require everyone to wear a mask. 

Sound: There may be loud metal noises as we set fenceposts. 

Potential Hazards: If you are helping with the fence, you will be working on uneven ground. (We will be digging holes, which we will flag, but remain a potential tripping hazard.) There will be a variety of plants around you, including poision ivy and plants that have thorns. 

Seating: We will provide folding chairs and stumps for seating, but if you have a chair that works best for you, you are welcome to bring it.  

Shade: There is ample shade in and around the barn.
