About the Event

A mezuzah is a small piece of parchment inscribed with words of Torah. It is protected inside a case that is affixed to doorways of a Jewish home. People find the presence of mezuzot in their homes meaningful in various ways. They may feel protected by sacred space, affirmed in their Jewish identity, or reminded of their Jewish commitments and values.

In this event, you will make a  mezuzah and clay case that will belong to you. You will also learn to make kosher ink. You'll have a choice between writing the Deuteronomy verses that are traditionally used on mezuzot, or other words that speak to you.

The paper provided for the scroll is handmade by local artist Alyssa Sacora, a neighbor of Yesod who teaches her own art workshops at The Patchwork Underground. If you prefer instead to use klaf (holy parchment made from ethically-raised goats), please add it…
