About the Event

What is our relationship with nature? Which stories get told about gardens, land, and the outdoors? Black American writers answer these questions in a new anthology of nature essays, “A Darker Wilderness: Black Nature Writing from Soil to Stars.” Thank you to Soil and Soul Project for co-sponsoring this book club with Yesod Farm+Kitchen!

RSVP is required. Tickets are free/sliding scale, and the deadline is 10am on the day of each book club session.

Our book club will read one to two chapters each month. This time we'll read the chapter "Concentric Memory: Remembering Our Way into the Future" by Naima Penniman (pages 148-181).

You can find a copy of “A Darker Wilderness” at local bookstores. Last we checked, Firestorm Books & Coffee carried it, and so did Malaprops Bookstore/Café. The public library also has a few copies you can borrow.

If you have trouble getting the book, we want to help! Yesod Farm+Kitchen will provide free copies to those who need them. If you want us to mail “A Darker Wilderness” to you, please indicate that when signing up to attend. Or request the book by emailing info@yesodfarm.org.

If you want to participate and can’t attend this time, please email info@yesodfarm.org to express interest, and we'll send you info about next month's meeting. Drop-ins are welcome.

Accessibility: There are flat, unpaved, wide walkways. A composting toilet for your use is located in the field. Please email info@yesodfarm.org with accessibility requests and questions.

COVID: This event is outdoors and distanced, but please **bring a mask** in case there are times where we need to be in closer proximity.

Weather: We'll be outdoors. Please wear what makes you comfortable in the summer -- hat, sunblock, etc. If it looks like rain, we may reschedule book club. You will receive an email by 10am the morning of book club in case of cancellation.

You will receive our address upon registration.
